Vacation starts in two days and I'm losing my mind with excitement. Got the tickets booked, grabbing my wife, and we're heading to Sri Lanka. Been dreaming about lounging on those beaches with the ocean right there, palm trees overhead, just total relaxation mode. Thing is, I know myself and I'll get restless after a few days of doing nothing, so I'm thinking we rent a car and explore a bit. What places should definitely be on the list, and where do people usually get their rentals sorted?

Beach life gets boring faster than you think when you're used to being active. Sri Lanka's interior is nothing like the coast, the hill country up in Ella and Nuwara Eliya is completely different from the beaches, tea plantations everywhere and the temperature drops enough that you'll need a jacket. There's this massive rock formation called Sigiriya that's got ancient ruins on top, the climb is brutal in the heat but the view makes it worth every step. Colombo has plenty of rental options since it's the main hub, or you can find places in coastal towns like Galle and Hikkaduwa if you'd rather settle in for a few days before exploring.

The roads get pretty crazy once you're outside the main cities, narrow lanes with buses flying past and animals just wandering across. Having a car beats depending on hired drivers who pad the routes to jack up their fees. Look at car rental in Sri Lanka here: https://getrentacar.com/en-US/sri-lanka . Get something higher off the ground if you're going inland where the roads aren't always paved. Booking yourself saves money over letting the hotel arrange it, and you're mobile the second you touch down.
